A MAN crushed to death at a cement works at Kandos, near Mudgee, on
Sunday night had worked at the plant for a little more than a year.
Colin Fuller, 39, apparently became caught in a concrete feeder.
Police, WorkCover and Cement Australia are investigating the accident.
The company’s chief executive officer, Chris Leon, has told local radio it is
the first death at the plant in decades.“This plant has been here for about
100 years and we think the last fatality was about 30 years ago,” he says.
“It is very, very upsetting for the company, we pride ourselves in being
along with the best in terms of safety in Australia in an industrial context.”
Mr Leon says it is also upsetting for the town.“The town of Kandos is really a
company town,” he says.“Most of the people in the town are involved in
someway in supporting our plant at Kandos and so when something like this
happens it’s devastating for the town.”
