A CONMAN posing as a psychologist was able to fool NSW health authorities
with a PhD bought for $250 on the internet.
David Kaye who police allege bought his psychology degree on the internet
for $250 and established Two NSW centres set up since 1997 was also Awarded
work in government program.
Using the alias Dr David Kaye, 45-year-old Ali Davut Sarikaya was allowed to
treat police officers and public servants with the blessing of the state Government.
Mr Sarikaya, who was arrested by Harbourside police as he attempted to
board a flight to New Zealand at Sydney airport, appeared in Central Local Court
on Wednesday on fraud charges and was granted conditional bail.
Police alleged the Turkish-born "doctor" claimed to be a trained psychologist,
despite holding no formal qualifications apart from a bachelor of arts.
His patients included police officers, prison guards and senior legal figures
who were referred to his medical practice in central Sydney through
WorkCover NSW.
A statement of facts tendered to the court said Mr Sarikaya had "deceived"
numerous government departments and organisations since moving to Sydney
in 1997.
The court heard Mr Sarikaya had been convicted of fraud offences of a "
dishonest ... identity-type nature" in Victoria in 1994.
In the years since, Mr Sarikaya, who runs trauma clinics in Sydney and
Parramatta, had been building a profile as the fictitious Dr David Kaye.
Police said he used this alias to avoid scrutiny of his Victorian criminal record.
The court heard that Mr Sarikaya had gained membership of several prestigious
organisations, including the NSW Bar Association, by touting himself as a doctor,
which he justified using a spurious PhD.
"Inquiries indicate this PhD was purchased via the internet from an organisation
in Minnesota, USA, for $249.95, and is by no means an official document enabling
use of titles such as doctor," the court heard.
The police facts stated that Mr Sarikaya also obtained several identity cards,
including an Australian Health Professionals Association card, in the name of
Dr David Kaye to help bolster his identity.
The alleged facade was so convincing that Mr Sarikaya was approved to work
as a psychologist under the NSW Health Department's Official Visitors Program.
In 2006, he was appointed to the program for three years by then health
minister John Hatzistergos, now the Attorney-General, who personally signed
off his accreditation.

David Kaye has done voluntary work in various private and government positions for over 23 years. Civic duty cannot be criminalised to perpetuate personal smear campaigns by public office holders who have a duty to protect the public.
However, since 25 June 2009 and more so since 4 August 2009, a number of unethical, incompetent and disgraceful wanna be journalists such as Yoni Bashan, Lisa Muxworthy, Boel Erricksson and Brendan Hills have published false information about David Kaye and they should be ashamed of themselves to call themselves a Journalist which they are not. The above blog re: Dr. David Kaye dated 4 October 2009 is evdiently based on false inofrmation. All 27 charges brought against Dr. Kaye by a malicious detective were withdrawn on 29 March 2010 at Central Local Court due to lack of evidence. Dr. Kaye made a formal complaint to the Police Integrity Commission against the same detective on 5 July 2009 after the detective tried to extort a bribe of $30,000.00 from Dr. Kaye on 3 July 2000 and he was later charged with making that complaint which was also withdrawn on 6 April 2010 at North Sydfney Local Court due to lack of evidence.
You cannot expect The Sunday Telegraph or the Mosman Daily, both owned by the same company- Nationwide News Limited- to protect the public publishing and disseminating false information as part of a smear campaign.

This report from the Sunday Telegraph dated 4 October 2009 is a disgraceful example of shoddy journalism by a journo who has not done any work to check the facts, court records or interviewed anyone. All charges against David Kaye were dropped due to lack of evidence on 29 March 2010 and a further charge of making a complaint of extortion of a bribe by a detective to the NSW Police Integrity Commission was also withdrawn due to lack of evidence on 6 April 2010.
This smear campaign against a mental health professional such as David Kaye who has spent a quarter of a century helping thousands of those members of the community who are traumatised should not be perpetuated but stopped immediately and the perpetrators punished.

I consulted David Kaye at his clinic The Melbourne Trauma Clinic after an armed hold up at my work. david and his team saved my life. He never told me he was a medical doctor or psychologist. would recomend his clinic to anyone who has tried to get help but has not found it. You will not get better professional help anywhere else. My GP referred me to David Kaye in 2004 after a work colleague died at work in Central Coast NSW. David Kaye and his team looked after me. I am not sure why people are attacking David Kaye. He told me he was a psychotherapist and not a medical doctor or psychologist. I understood that he employed psychologists and psychiatrists to do all the formal assessment andf reports. He was meticulous in his managment of my recovery. I had attempted suicide twice before I consulted David Kaye but he made me aware of just how stupid I was in thinking that by killing myself I was being selfish without considering the possible damage to my wife, children and family. I worked with a colleague of David Kaye who also showed the same level of professionalism and honesty as David. It hurts me to see someone like David Kaye being attacked so maliciously. Those who do may need his services one day and I have no doubt that david is the kind of person who will still help them. This is a selfless quality not present in many therapists today.

I was treated by david kaye in sydney at his sydney trauma clinic. I am appalled by the malicious smear campagn against david kaye. he never told me he was a medical doctor or psychologist he told me he was a trauma consultant and psychotherapist. i have checked with the medical and psychologists board in nsw and they have never found that he has misrepresented himself to anyone as such. I am a retired psychiatrist. I was a colleague of david kaye in our role as an official visitor with the nsw official visitors program. david impressed me as a man of great integrity, honesty and professionalism who cares about those in need with a mental illness. Just read his book and you get an idea of the depth of knowledge and experience.
I am a GP in cbd Sydney. I have known David Kaye personally and professionally since 1997. He used to be the National manager of The Bensons Group Injury Management Service when I met him first. When David started Sydney Trauma Clinic in 1999 I was initially reluctant to refer any of my patients to his service as I already had a number of mental health services I had good results with. However, one of my patients was referred to Sydney Trauama Clinic by the Insurer Allianz. The patient was one of the most severely traumatised I had seen in years and had been on the workers compensation system for over 7 years. Within 8 months this patient was retrained and back at work. I received copies of regular reports from David's clinic and they contacted me to provide as much information as I needed to assist in my patient's recovery. I have since referred some more of my patients to David and his team at Sydney Trauma Clinic and all my patients have benefited significantly from David's treatment. Not a single patient has made any adverse comment to me.
I have watched the attacks on David Kaye. He informed me that a detective from Harbourside Local Area Command in North Sydney had tried to extort a $30,000 bribe from him on 3 July 2009 and I suggested that he file a complaint with the Police Integrity Commission at the time wihtout giving any second thought to the matter. I have since David's complaint to the Police Integrity Commission on 5 July 2009 witnessed the damage that can be done when State power is vested in the hands of corrupt police officers. David has not sought my help as he is a man of integrity and has always selflessly helped others.I have known him for 13 years as an ethical, compassionate and honest therapist, passionate about hhelping those who are in need. When I pressed him on this his reaction was to angrily maintain his innocence and harass me even though he was under investigation at the time. If he gets your phone number change it!

I am a former patient of Dr. David Kaye. Can I suggest that those spineless cowards get their facts straight. Dr. Kaye never told me he was a medical doctor or psychologist. If you can't put your name to your comments that just about says as much for you. Spineless. Why don't you check the NSW Psychologists Registration Board or the Medical Board to see if they have found Dr. Kaye ever falsely represented himself as a Psychologist or a medical doctor. I met the man. I was treated by him for over 12 months after a serious trauma. As I understand it he is a man of integrity, honesty and I have nothing but the highest regard for him. I suggest you read quote 2 from his book. I understand that Dr. Kaye wrote it.

I am a former Armaguard Officer and former patient of David Kaye at his Melbourne Clinic. He saved my life after an armed hold up whihc left me with serious injuries. I have nothing but the highest regard for David Kaye annd his staff. Those attacking Dr. Kaye should first look at themselves. To all those horrible people behind the lies that have been spread regarding David's innocence I have say STOP IT! You don't know how his brain works- and get a life. At least try Soft Touch Therapy, I know it helped me or at least I'd like to think it did. Well I hope it did, and besides I sort of got used to it I guess, and in time, after I've healed I really wish I can return to normal again. Whilst it was initially very painful the two of us improved the technique considerably during all those clinical trials in his office bathroom after hours. What with the addition of things like hand towel placed in my mouth to muffle the screams and the application of his secret formula ointment, mainly as a lubricant, said by the Doctor to have originated in Turkey hundreds and hundreds of years ago and of course a cushion under my tummy helped when I was bent over the chair so as I wouldn't bruise as much. David said that these things were terrific improvements and that my contribution to the study was very valuable, promising to reward me with an acknowledgement in his new book (Soft touching-a little harder) and a small stipend, however the cheque bounced and I haven't been able to contact him. Does anyone out there know where I can buy the book?
There is know such person as a Dr David Kaye that's working legitimately in the field of counseling in NSW, past or present, OK. There is a person however, that has been using that name as an alias, bolstered by the additional use of fictitious documentation and qualifications, hence working fraudulently, for at least a decade in NSW, prior to this this person was using his own name, which is Davud Ali Sarikaya, and doing a similar thing in Melbourne Victoria, that is until he was caught and subsequently convicted of fraud in 1994. The only Dr David Kaye in Australia works in a completely different field of medicine and at the Alfred hospital in Melbourne Victoria and furthermore he doesn't look anything like this person that is facing facing court again in October and is currently under a series of strict bail conditions.

There is a Dr. David Kaye who is a clinical member of the professional national counselling body and has been practicing as a counsellor and psychotherapist for the past 25 years. Reportedly he has saved hundreds of lives and provided help to thousands of people in need. I attended a group training program in vicarious trauma run by David and was impressed by his theoretical knowledge and clinical experience. I learnt a great deal about what it means to be a compassionate annd competent therapist.

I'm shocked to read these testimonials professing this 'doctors' innocence and his legitimacy. Counseling the thousands of people that you said you have over the years, it's reasonable to accept that you would've gained allot of experience. And that you would've also been compelled by necessity to acquire anything and everything that could help along the way, including for instance, the use of the relevant terminology, paper work and any other prop deemed advantageous at the time, obviously with the aim of making the charade appear as legitimate as possible. And I guess there would've undoubtedly been some successes with your 'clients'(we wont call them patients..) as well, largely as a result of your mimicking of the correct procedures employed by the rest of the members of profession who happen to be legitimate. However, if you go so far as to expect government departments, the various authorities and of course insurance companies to fund this fantasy of yours you'll definitely be running into problems as they'll regard it as fraudulent and you a criminal and you'll end up with a stretch in prison.... and that would be after you've been made to pay them back the money that you've scammed.

I can assure you there are hundreds if not thousands of others in the community who are legitimately working as counsellors and psychotherapists and doing a damn good job for that matter.
If this man has been found NOT to have been falsely representing himself as a psychologist or medical doctor by the NSW Psychologists Board after a thorough investigation and 2 hearings and the Courts, then where is the fraud and why the smear against him?

FYI this is what I have found out as a matter of public record through Court documents and several phone calls:
Amongst others, Dr. David Kaye worked under the professional supervision of Dr. John CP Cone from 1996 to 2003. Apparently, the crooked detective spoke with Dr. Cone in 2009 and said so in his facts sheet when it is a fact that the good doctor had died in 2007.
He was appointed by the Victorian Health Minister to the Board of the largest Community Health Service in Victoria, the Yarra Ranges and served on this Board on a voluntary basis for 7 years. I found an article in The Age about an anti-domestic violence campaign spearheaded by Dr. Kaye and also another article in the SMH relating to his work with problem gamblers. In addition, he apparently volunteered his time on a number of other private and government Boards, including the NSW Bar Association for 2.5 years as a laye member.
All in all I spent 10 minutes to find these facts.
Now, why is this man who has done so much work to improve the qulaity of life of his fellow Australians, saved hundreds of lives and at his own expense done so much voluntary work towards the same ends being villified and smearded when he has been found not to have falsely represented himself as a psychologist or medical doctor in NSW by the respective Boards, especially in thye light of the fact that all charges against him by a corrupt NSW detective and his associates were withdrawn on 29 March and 4 April 2010?
What is really the agenda? I am sure all will come out in the wash.

The only thing more frightening than Sarikaya's propensity for physical violence when feeling threatened was his capacity for emotional violence. The best words I can think of to describe him would be personality disorder and delusional psychotic. It is actually quite remarkable that he has not killed anyone yet.
He is incapable of feeling empathy for others and will stop at nothing to establish credibility, especially professional credibility. He lies routinely and does not recognise any authority. On top of all this he is also a sexual predator.
He was born in Turkey and had an horrific childhood which has no doubt contributed greatly to his enormous dysfunction. It’s all there in his own history – abandonment, physical abuse and God only knows what else.
I believe his fraudulent behaviour is incidental. It is simply a means to a greater end which is professional credibility and acceptance/respect. Being financially successful, financially independent, is part of the credibility story. Unfortunately what Sarikaya really covets, credibility and respect, is something that is quite foreign to him. I was one of David’s patience who busted the case in Victoria wide open. Not only did he lie to me about being a psychologist, yes he actually did say psychologist. But he also claimed to see me and charged TAC approx. 35 visitors I apparently had with him. Clearly I only went no more than 4 times. He later tried to convince me that, the time he took me on the country drive and for dinner, were also times he treated me. What a JOKE ! I was in my very early 20’s and he took advantage of my naivety and manipulated the situation for his benefits ! I do not know for sure if he really is qualified to practise but what I do know is my facts. And from those he is guilty as charged ! Asshole !
One can just imagine the ranting and raving of this sick madman whilst he's awaiting the outcome of this diabolical saga at home. He'd be stomping around with his head spinning,crazilly trying to convince himself of his innocence and all the other rubbish. It would have to be just hideous!

Appreciate some input here as I think this one’s a goer. Dodging convictions can and should be a cinch for
just about everybody in practice. It’s being charged in the first place that becomes a nuisance. No, it really shits me
