Worker injured at BHP Billiton operations

A worker has been injured in an incident at BHP Billiton's port operations at
Port Hedland.

The ABC understands the worker was hit by an iron-ore train at the Nelson
Point site at Port Hedland this morning.

BHP says the man's injuries are minor, but he has been taken to hospital
for observation.

The company says it is investigating what it calls a 'safety incident' and it
has suspended yard operations at Nelson Point.

Safety inspectors have issued BHP Billiton with 12 stop-work
notices for safety breaches at its Pilbara mines in the past
three weeks.

Five people have been killed at the companies sites in the Pilbara in the
past nine months.

A review of BHP's safety record is due to be completed by the end of the
month.
