Worksafe says a man who fell ten storeys at a Latrobe Valley power station
this morning is lucky to be alive.
The 47-year-old contractor was cleaning a boiler at the Yallourn power
station when his harness failed.
He landed in a hot ash hopper and suffered burns to his hands and other
injuries. He is in the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
Michael Birt, from Worksafe, says it is amazing the man was not more
seriously injured."He's been working on ropes and he's had an uncontrolled
descent in to the hopper," he said."He's hit the wall and that's slowed him
down somewhat and probably saved him from more serious injuries."
He said the man has a fractured cheek and shoulder.
