WorkCover criticised over private law firm - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

WorkCover criticised over private law firm - ABC News (Australian
Broadcasting Corporation):

South Australia's Attorney-General, Michael Atkinson, has criticised the use
of private law firms by WorkCover rather than the Crown to prosecute
compensation claims.

The Opposition has told Parliament that a recent WorkCover case was
thrown out of court on the grounds that the prosecution acted improperly.

It says the case was prosecuted by a private law firm and cost WorkCover
$700,000. Mr Atkinson has told Parliament he shares the Opposition's
concerns.

'I think WorkCover would be well advised to look towards the Crown to
do future prosecutions,' he said. 'I think that policy change suggests itself in
the judgement.'"
