Central Park is one of eight sporting facilities across the state chosen to be
part of a Worksafe Victoria pilot project.

The $100,000 project has been running over a period of 12 months, during
which Worksafe has been erecting netting behind the goal posts at a number
of football ovals.

Each net is funded entirely by Worksafe Victoria and costs approximately
$12,000 depending on the safety requirements of the facility.

Stawell was chosen to participate in the project after conditions at Central
Park were deemed unsafe.

Netting has been placed behind the goals at the scoreboard end of the ground,
where balls were often kicked out of the park or on to the roofs of surrounding
buildings.

Planning, Facilities and Junior Football Manager for the Worksafe Victorian
Country Football League, Shayne Ward, said Worksafe took a number of
factors into consideration when distributing the funding.

`We have tried to get an even geographical spread of nets around the state
but they have mostly been based at venues with safety issues,'' he said.

`At many sporting clubs pedestrians and cars were being hit by footballs
when goal posts were too close to the road.

`At other places balls ended up on the roofs of buildings or over fences.''

In the past, games at Central Park were regularly interrupted when players
or spectators were forced to chase down wayward footballs.

The new netting has been preventing the majority of balls from leaving the
ground after a score has been kicked.

Mr Ward said the netting would also assist local football clubs during training
sessions.

`The net at Stawell has come up really well,'' he said.
`Aside from being a safeguard to pedestrians it will also benefit the football clubs.
`From their perspective the net can really help out during kicking practice
because it means the balls come straight back and players don't have to waste
time going to collect them from outside the ground.''

WCV's: You had better be shitting me! "Nets before Injured workers?"
What the f__k! and at $12000.00 a pop!

"Oh hang on a minute look the poor babies had to go and look for their balls!"
I'm sure thats much more important than worksafe supporting the injured
workers they already have!

"Busted Worksafe"...Here you are Worksafe Victoria distributing funding they
told me they didn't have and for what?

Bloody Nets!

So which way is it Mr Holding?

What is the real reasons for not including all injured workers in the
changes already made?

Your'e "we cant afford to" just doesn't seem to cut it anymore!!!!!!!
