The Industrial Court has fined two Adelaide contractors more than $65,000 in
total over a work accident which left a young footballer brain-injured.
The man was working in a trench as a plumber at a Largs North property in
2006 when sand collapsed around him and a brick pillar hit him on the head.
Industrial magistrate Stephen Lieschke found the man's employer Mark
Goodman and an excavator, Peter Watson, had failed to provide a safe
workplace.
He fined Goodman $32,000 and Watson $34,000.
The court was told the injured man spent a week in a coma and had brain
surgery twice. He had moved to South Australia to play football with Glenelg
but could no longer do any contact sport or work as a plumber.
