Workcover changes resisted

Posted Mon Aug 25, 2008 12:21pm AEST

Protesters gathered outside the Victorian Workcover Authority today, in an
attempt to stop changes to accident compensation claims.

Peter Hanks QC is submitting his review of the Accident Compensation
Act to the Victorian Government.

The Trades Hall Council says the proposed changes will be unfair to
injured workers.

Council President Anne Taylor is calling on the government to meet with
unions before changing Workcover laws.

"I would ask the State Government to look at the Hanks review but then to
listen to us because we're representing the workers," she said.
"We're really concerned that the report that they are receiving is going to
lead to worsening conditions for workers, especially for those who go out
on stress claims."

WCV's: If the changes in the Hanks report are implemented there will be no
provisins for a stress related workcover claim. This will allow workplace
bullying to thrieve and will only increase workplace stress and endanger
lives. This is not an acceptable change.

The Government are not telling us where all their injured workers are ending up?

The Government is not telling us that Centrelink is picking up their tab for
injured workers who are unable to return to the work force and who
were more than likely injured during kennetts trashing of our civil right
to workplace insurances.
