Update: Charges dropped: but back to court

Crime4 Apr 10 by BOEL ERIKSSON

Ali Davut Sarikaya had 27 charged against him dropped last week.

A MILSONS Point man accused of fraudulently posing as a psychologist had 27 charges against him withdrawn in court on Monday.

But, according to police, he will still face court accused of fraud amounting to more than $290,000, and allegedly making a false complaint against a police officer.

Ali Davut Sarikaya, 46 - also known as David Kaye - was arrested and charged with 27 offences on September 25 last year as he was trying to board a flight to New Zealand.

He was charged with 10 counts of making false instrument, 10 counts of using false instrument, six counts of obtaining money by deception and one count of false use of title, under the Medical Practices Act.

Police alleged he had worked as a psychologist under the name of Dr David Kaye and run two trauma clinics despite having no formal tertiary training or medical qualifications.

He was served strict bail conditions and admitted to a Bronte clinic for treatment by a psychiatrist.

Documents tendered to Downing Centre Local Court on Monday showed the 27 charges had been withdrawn.

It is understood the prosecution did not have sufficient evidence to support the charges.

Investigations by detectives into a separate 12 matters were continuing, a police spokesman told the Daily.

“As the matters are currently before the court it would be inappropriate for police to make any further comment,” he said.

Mr Sarikaya is due to appear in North Sydney Court on April 6 for allegedly making a false complaint against a police officer.

He is then due in the Downing Centre on April 20 on three counts of making false instrument, four counts of using false instrument, four counts of attempting to obtain benefit by deception and one count of custody of false instrument, according to police.

Mr Sarikaya did not want to comment on the withdrawn changes when approached by the Daily at court.
