A team of Sydney University researchers is inviting NSW and Victorian
employers who have not undergone OHS prosecution to discuss their
awareness of recent changes to OHS law and of other companies
being prosecuted.
Recent OHS legislation in New South Wales and Victoria has increased
penalties and fines to reduce serious injuries and deaths in workplaces.
A study being conducted by the researchers at the University of Sydney
is exploring employers’ responses to this legislation.
The researchers want to find out:
1. what kinds of actions employers take if they are prosecuted for OHS
offences, or if they hear of others being prosecuted for serious OHS offences.
2. what sorts of barriers and difficulties employers face in implementing
the Court’s orders and in preventing further serious injuries and deaths.
3. how easy is it for employers to comply with the legislation.
The researchers are seeking interviewees. Those interested should
contact Belinda Reeve (details below). Participation involves a 30
minute interview, subject to strict confidentiality requirements.
The project is an opportunity for NSW and Victorian business owners
and those involved in OHS management to give their views on OHS
legislation, especially in light of the push to harmonise OHS laws
across Australia.
