Paramedic faces jail for $35,955 WorkSafe fraud

Paramedic faces jail for $35,955 WorkSafe fraud
07 July 2008

A former paramedic from Sunbury was convicted and faces the possibility of
five months in jail, after pleading guilty on Friday 4 July 2008 to fraudulently
obtaining nearly $36,000 in workers compensation payments and for
providing false information.

The Broadmeadows Magistrates Court heard that 55-year old Bryce Lindemann
was working as a Metropolitan Ambulance Service (MAS) paramedic in 2005
when he suffered an injury to his knees and wrist while at work.

Mr Lindemann pleaded guilty to 19 counts of fraudulently obtaining payments
and one count of providing false information under the Accident
Compensation Act 1985.

He was convicted and ordered to repay $25,000 of the compensation he
obtained fraudulently or face court again. Mr Lindemann was also sentenced to
five months jail, to commence if he commits any further offences in the next year.

WorkSafe Executive Director, Len Boehm said one of the important reasons the
WorkSafe scheme existed was to protect workers who suffered a workplace injury.

“This sort of fraudulent behaviour attempts to take advantage of a
system that is set up to provide support for people who are unable
to work due to a workplace injury,” said Mr Boehm.

“We will identify and prosecute those who deceive the system, in
order to protect honest workers and employers.

“This case is another reminder of the consequences to be suffered

as a result of dishonesty.”

WCV's: Get a load of this balony.....Why has Kennett and Halam gotten away with
providing falsified figures to the public and the governement to aquire a change to
our legislation and not been charged with fraud?

It seems that its ok for worksafe to take an injured worker to court for the
same crime of FRAUD and let Kennett get away with it? Whats wrong with
this picture?

Kennett had a duty to all australian workers as an MP and he has clearly
breached it. He also lied to the Parliament which is a breach of his duties as a
Minister also and nothings been done about it! Why Not?

When is our government going to be made accountable for their actions?

Good Point! You are right! Why do we allow elected parties to be dishonest? Surely we have been burned by this many times. Yet we are all too quick to judge one of our own... double standards plus.

Well I for one believe that we should all be treated equally.

Do we all really believe that the Government is above us? That they are supreme to us? Have we forgotten what they are created for?
TO SERVE US! What is wrong with this picture? I really hope and pray that our fellow Australians realise our rights are just as important, and falling away faster, with every step of handing over our power. Just like in this instance there are many instances.

Why do they get pay rises when we get pay cuts or worse?

There are so many questions.
Burying our heads in ignorance of our rights and responsibilities to the determent of ourselves the Soverign People, is getting us no where fast!

That might seem all too easy to do, but in the long run it makes all of our lives MUCH HARDER.
